External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has hailed India's Vaccine Maitri initiative as a shining example of responsible leadership that harmonizes national interest with global good. Speaking at an event, Jaishankar emphasized that the program demonstrated India's commitment to global solidarity during the COVID-19 pandemic.
India's Vaccine Diplomacy
Under the Vaccine Maitri initiative, India supplied over 66 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to nearly 100 countries, including many in its neighborhood and Africa. Jaishankar noted that this effort was not just about sharing vaccines but also about building trust and cooperation in the international community.
A Model for Others
Jaishankar stated that Vaccine Maitri serves as a template for how countries can balance their domestic priorities with global responsibilities. He highlighted that India's approach was based on the principle of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (the world is one family).
The minister also pointed out that India's vaccine production capacity and its willingness to share resources played a crucial role in combating the pandemic globally. He called for more such collaborative efforts in the future to address global challenges.
- India supplied vaccines to over 95 countries and regions.
- The initiative included both donations and commercial exports.
- It helped in strengthening India's diplomatic ties with several nations.
Global Recognition
Jaishankar's remarks come amid growing recognition of India's role in global health security. The World Health Organization and other international bodies have praised India's efforts in vaccine distribution.
The minister concluded by saying that responsible leadership in today's interconnected world requires a delicate balance between national priorities and global needs, a balance that India has successfully achieved through Vaccine Maitri.
