Mangaluru 61-Day Marine Fishing Ban June 1 to July 31

Mangaluru: A 61-day annual marine fishing ban will be enforced from June 1 to July 31, as per the directive of the Deputy Commissioner. The ban prohibits mechanised boats and traditional boats fitted with inboard or outboard engines of 10 hp and above from engaging in fishing activities during this period. However, fishing boats equipped with engines of up to 10 hp are permitted to continue fishing.

Strict Compliance Ordered

The Joint Director of the Fisheries Department has issued a release urging fishermen to strictly adhere to the DC's order. The release warns that any fisherman violating the government directive will face severe consequences, including the loss of diesel subsidy for one year and penal action under the Karnataka Marine Fishing (Regulation) Act, 1986.

Penal Provisions

Fishermen found flouting the ban will not only lose their diesel subsidy for a full year but also be subject to legal penalties as per the state's marine fishing regulation act. The authorities emphasize that compliance is mandatory to ensure sustainable fishing practices and protect marine resources.
