A video from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district capturing an unusual interaction between a monkey and a stray puppy has recently gone viral on social media platforms. The incident reportedly took place in the Rewalsar area, where locals witnessed a monkey picking up a puppy from the roadside and carrying it nearly 20 feet up a tree.
Locals Gather in Concern
As soon as the sight drew the attention of the locals, they immediately gathered below the tree, fearing that the puppy could be dropped from such a height. However, instead of harming the animal, the monkey appeared to hold the puppy protectively, much like a mother would care for her young.
Monkey's Protective Behavior
Witnesses reported that the monkey remained perched in the tree for approximately 10 to 15 minutes, cradling the puppy. Some observers speculated that the monkey might have been female, and that maternal instincts could have influenced its behavior toward the puppy. Fortunately, the monkey eventually climbed down and gently left the puppy on the ground, completely unharmed.
The Tribune could not independently verify the authenticity of the video, but the footage has sparked widespread discussion about animal behavior and interspecies interactions. The incident serves as a reminder of the complex and sometimes surprising behaviors observed in wildlife.
