The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to construct a 31-kilometre elevated expressway along the Yamuna Pushta road, connecting east Delhi near the Okhla barrage to Chi IV in Greater Noida. This corridor will serve as a bypass to the Noida Expressway for commuters traveling to the Noida International Airport.
Traffic Surge Expected
Traffic on the expressway is anticipated to increase significantly as flight operations commence at the Noida International Airport. The airport is projected to handle 1.2 crore passengers annually in its initial years, adding to the commuter load on the corridor.
Project Handover to NHAI
The Uttar Pradesh government initially assigned the project to the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). UPEIDA conducted a physical inspection with the irrigation department to assess a 10-lane corridor by widening the existing embankment road. However, NHAI later took over the execution.
NHAI's Re-entry
NHAI had initially withdrawn from the project due to procedural delays. However, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari indicated last year that the agency would consider developing an elevated road along the Yamuna Pushta, leading to its re-entry.
Completion Timeline
Noida Authority General Manager AK Arora confirmed that NHAI has taken charge of the project. The eight-lane corridor is expected to be completed within two years, setting a defined timeline for execution.
Design and Planning
The corridor is proposed to include three loops to provide connectivity along the route. NHAI’s consultant is currently preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR), while development authorities are finalizing land acquisition requirements.
Route Details
The elevated road will originate near the Okhla barrage in Sector 94 and pass through sectors 95 and 125 to 135 before merging with the Yamuna Expressway near Chi-IV. The route will traverse corporate, residential, and institutional zones.
