Pakistani security forces killed five terrorists on Friday during an intelligence-based operation in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police confirmed. The operation took place in Darra Adam Khel town of Kohat district, approximately 30 kilometers southwest of Peshawar.
On Saturday, police reported that two Pakistani security personnel also lost their lives in the ensuing exchange of fire. According to authorities, the operation was launched following intelligence inputs indicating the presence of terrorists in the area. Security forces engaged the militants, resulting in the elimination of five individuals, as per news agency PTI.
Following the operation, security forces cordoned off the area and initiated a search and clearance operation to ensure no remaining militants were present. The situation in the region is being closely monitored with heightened surveillance.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist attacks, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the end of its ceasefire with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in November 2022. These attacks have predominantly targeted police, law enforcement personnel, and security forces.
