PM Modi Engages with Global Leaders at G7 Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged with leaders from Italy, the European Union, and Kenya on the second day of the G7 Summit held in Evian, France. The interactions took place on Wednesday as world leaders gathered for the annual summit.

Bilateral Interactions at the Summit

During the summit proceedings, PM Modi was seen in conversation with European Council President Antonio Costa, Kenyan President William Ruto, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. These discussions underscored India's active engagement with key global partners.

The official G7 social media page shared an image of world leaders seated around a roundtable during the session. In the photograph, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz was positioned to PM Modi's left, while US President Donald Trump sat to his right.

Joint Declaration on Global Issues

On the same day, G7 nations signed a joint declaration welcoming the peace agreement between the United States and Iran. The declaration reaffirmed the group's support for Ukraine and called for enhanced cooperation on Indo-Pacific security, energy resilience, and supply chain stability during the 52nd G7 Summit in France.

The G7 leaders voiced support for an immediate and robust ceasefire in Lebanon, backing efforts by Lebanese leadership to achieve the disarmament of Hezbollah. Regarding Gaza, they pledged to accelerate humanitarian assistance and reconstruction while calling for an end to violence in the West Bank.

Indo-Pacific and Regional Security

On the Indo-Pacific, the G7 reiterated its commitment to a free and open region governed by international law. The leaders opposed unilateral attempts to alter the status quo by force or coercion in the East and South China Seas and across the Taiwan Strait.

The declaration expressed deep concern over North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs, calling for complete denuclearization in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions. The leaders also highlighted the need to counter North Korean cryptocurrency thefts and cybercrimes.

Global Economic Cooperation

The G7 welcomed the outcomes of the Global Convergence for Growth Summit hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron earlier this month. They reaffirmed the importance of cooperation among major economies to address persistent global imbalances and strengthen long-term economic stability.
