Putin in China: Xi Urges End to West Asia Crisis, Ties Deepen

Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to China has cast a spotlight on global geopolitical tensions, the West Asia crisis, and the deepening partnership between Beijing and Moscow. During the talks with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, the two leaders discussed regional conflicts, energy cooperation, technology partnerships, and global governance, presenting their ties as a stabilizing force in an increasingly volatile international landscape.

Xi Urges Immediate End to West Asia Conflict

On Wednesday, Putin held official talks with Xi in Beijing, where they called for stronger bilateral cooperation and addressed the escalating crisis in West Asia. Xi warned that the Gulf region stood at a "critical juncture between war and peace" and demanded an immediate halt to the violence. "Currently, amid the chaos in the international situation, aspirations towards peace still remain the expectation of our nation. As permanent members of the UN Security Council and important powers of the world, Russia and China must strive for cooperation on a higher level, building a just system of global governance," Xi stated.

Putin Highlights Energy and Technology Cooperation

Putin underscored Russia's commitment to maintaining stable energy supplies to China despite instability in the Middle East. "Amid the crisis in the Middle East, Russia still remains a reliable energy supplier of energy resources for China. We have major projects going on in transport, economy and high technology," the Russian President said.

Visit Comes Days After Trump’s Beijing Trip

The high-profile visit occurred just days after US President Donald Trump traveled to Beijing, adding fresh geopolitical significance to the Moscow-Beijing engagement. Xi accorded Putin a grand reception, while Russian state news agency TASS reported that Putin described bilateral ties as having reached "a truly unprecedented level" shortly before arriving in China.

China Says Talks Aimed at Deeper Strategic Alignment

According to the Chinese foreign ministry, the visit included extensive discussions on bilateral relations, cooperation across multiple sectors, and key international and regional developments. Spokesperson Guo Jiakun noted that this was Putin's 25th official visit to China and highlighted the "profound strategic alignment" between the two nations. "The two sides will take this visit as an opportunity to continue to promote the development of China-Russia relations to a higher level, which will inject greater stability and positive energy into the world," Guo said during a media briefing on Monday. Since Xi assumed office in 2012, the two leaders have met dozens of times, frequently referring to each other as "dear friend" and emphasizing mutual trust and long-term strategic cooperation.
