Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid homage at the Seoul National Cemetery in South Korea on Wednesday, honouring the sacrifices of soldiers who fought for the nation's freedom. The visit underscores the deepening defence and strategic partnership between India and South Korea.
Ceremonial Tribute
Upon arrival, Singh laid a wreath at the cemetery's memorial and observed a moment of silence. The Seoul National Cemetery is the final resting place for South Korean veterans, including those from the Korean War and other conflicts. Singh's gesture reflects India's respect for the valour of South Korean armed forces.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
The tribute comes amid ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation in defence, technology, and trade between the two nations. India and South Korea have been expanding their strategic partnership, with regular high-level exchanges and joint military exercises. Singh's visit is expected to further solidify these ties.
Earlier, the defence minister held talks with South Korean officials to discuss regional security and defence industrial collaboration. India has shown interest in South Korea's advanced defence technologies, including in shipbuilding and aerospace. The two countries also aim to boost cooperation in counter-terrorism and maritime security.
Singh's itinerary includes visits to key defence installations and interactions with Indian diaspora in South Korea. His trip is part of a broader diplomatic outreach to strengthen India's engagement with East Asian partners.
