Farmers associated with the Pagri Sambhal Jatta Kisan Sangharsh Samiti have submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Hisar, raising serious environmental and irrigation-related issues affecting the villages of Chaudhariwas and Gorchi. The delegation, led by state committee member Anil Gorchi, alleged that an industrial unit located on Chaudhariwas Road has illegally installed pipelines to discharge chemical waste and sewage water into the Chaudhariwas minor canal, leading to water contamination.
Allegations of Toxic Waste Dumping
The memorandum states that toxic waste from a brick kiln is also being released into an irrigation channel. Villagers are reportedly forced to use this contaminated water for agricultural purposes and domestic needs. Farmers warned that prolonged exposure to such polluted water could increase the risk of serious diseases among the local population.
Demands for Action
The farmers have demanded immediate action against the release of toxic liquid waste into the canal, which has resulted in contamination of both the minor canal and the irrigation channel. They also called for the removal of all unauthorized pipelines and illegal structures, including a culvert, from the canal and irrigation network. The farmers warned that if the administration fails to take prompt and effective action, they would be compelled to intensify their agitation.
The issue highlights the ongoing struggle of rural communities against industrial pollution, which threatens both health and livelihoods. The farmers emphasized that without intervention, the contamination could have long-term consequences for the region's agriculture and water security.
