The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rain across various parts of Himachal Pradesh and snowfall at isolated places in the higher reaches till June 23, as a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from June 18.
Orange and Yellow Alerts Issued
The IMD has issued an orange alert for June 18 and 19 in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Shimla districts, warning of hailstorms, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph at isolated places. A yellow alert has also been sounded for most other districts, barring Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti, till June 21.
Monsoon Entry Expected
The southwest monsoon is also likely to enter Himachal Pradesh after June 20 and is expected to cover the entire state by June 25.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall was recorded at isolated places across the state on Wednesday. Mandi received the highest rainfall of 21.9 mm, followed by Kullu with 2.6 mm and Shimla with 0.8 mm.
Kukumseri in Lahaul and Spiti recorded the state's lowest minimum temperature at 6.8°C, while Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur was the hottest at 37°C.
