Panaji Shivers at 17.1°C, Records Goa's Coldest Night This Season
Panaji hits season's low of 17.1°C, coldest in Goa

Panaji residents experienced a surprisingly sharp winter bite on Sunday morning as the city's mercury plunged to a season's low. The capital recorded a minimum temperature of 17.1 degrees Celsius, marking the coldest night in Goa so far this winter.

Temperature Contrast Across the Region

The new record surpassed the previous lowest temperature of 17.5°C noted recently. Interestingly, while the night was chilly, the daytime remained warm with Panaji's maximum temperature reaching 32.6°C. This created a significant daily temperature variation.

Weather data from other monitoring stations highlighted notable contrasts. The port town of Mormugao recorded a higher minimum temperature of 18.2°C. However, its maximum temperature was considerably lower at 30.6°C. Humidity levels also differed vastly, with Panaji at 52% relative humidity against a much muggier 78% in Mormugao.

IMD Forecast and Advisory for Goa

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), dry weather conditions are expected to prevail over the state of Goa until December 27. The forecast also indicates the possibility of shallow to moderate haze or mist at isolated places during the early morning hours over this period.

In light of the predicted weather patterns, authorities have issued an advisory for residents. People have been urged to remain cautious during early morning travel due to the potential for mist or haze, which could reduce visibility in some areas.

Staying Prepared for the Winter Dip

The sudden dip serves as a reminder of the winter season's arrival in the coastal state, which typically enjoys a more moderate climate. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions, especially during the early hours when the chill is most pronounced and visibility may be affected.

The IMD continues to monitor the situation, and the public is encouraged to stay updated with the latest weather bulletins for any changes in the forecast.
