Saudi Arabia Establishes Real-Time Operations Room to Manage Umrah Pilgrim Surge
Saudi authorities have launched a specialized operations room to coordinate services in real time for Umrah pilgrims, responding to a dramatic increase in arrivals that has pushed the Kingdom to scale up its infrastructure and management systems. This initiative aims to enhance the overall experience for pilgrims performing their religious rituals.
Minister Announces Coordinated Response to Rising Demand
Saudi Arabia's Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, announced the launch of the operations room during the opening session of the Umrah and Ziyarah Forum in Madinah. The minister emphasized that the ministry and associated entities are fully prepared to adapt to regional changes and the escalating demand for pilgrimage services.
The operations room has been developed in collaboration with the General Authority of Civil Aviation and other relevant agencies, marking a coordinated cross-sector approach to ensure both comfort and safety for international pilgrims. This move signals a strategic effort to streamline services and address challenges faced by pilgrims arriving from abroad during their stay in the Kingdom.
Record Growth in Umrah Pilgrim Numbers
Minister Al-Rabiah revealed that 18 million Umrah pilgrims arrived from outside Saudi Arabia this year, representing a growth of more than 214 percent compared to 2022 and 2025 figures. This sharp rise has necessitated enhanced coordination mechanisms to manage the influx effectively.
The minister credited the Kingdom's leadership for its continued support in expanding and strengthening the Umrah sector, which has seen measurable improvements in service quality. According to official data, pilgrim satisfaction levels have climbed to 94 percent by 2025, reflecting successful implementation of service enhancements.
Enhanced Pilgrimage Experience and Site Development
Alongside the operational improvements, Saudi authorities have recorded significant increases in visits to key religious sites. More than 15.6 million visitors were recorded at Al-Rawdah Al-Sharifah, indicating growing engagement with pilgrimage destinations.
The development of historical sites has also progressed notably, contributing to a broader and more enriched pilgrimage experience for visitors. These enhancements are part of a comprehensive strategy to improve the quality of religious tourism in the Kingdom.
Umrah Forum Reflects Sector Growth
The third edition of the Umrah and Ziyarah Forum itself demonstrates the scale of growth in the pilgrimage sector. The event has brought together more than 150 exhibitors and includes 50 workshops focused on enhancing services and fostering innovation within the industry.
Over 5,000 agreements are set to be signed during the forum, aimed at strengthening partnerships and improving the quality and efficiency of Umrah and visitation services across all aspects of the pilgrimage experience. This collaborative approach underscores Saudi Arabia's commitment to maintaining high standards as pilgrim numbers continue to rise.
