A disturbing incident of animal cruelty has surfaced in Jamnagar, prompting the City B-Division Police to register an FIR against a local resident for allegedly hurling a dog from an apartment building. The incident occurred on the afternoon of June 8, 2026, at the Kukda Kendra Aavas housing complex, according to police reports.

Details of the Incident

According to the official complaint, the accused, identified as Papubhai, grabbed the dog by its legs and threw it from the second floor of the apartment. The severe fall caused grievous injuries to the animal's legs and body. The complaint also notes that the accused had previously beaten the dog's puppies. The heinous act was recorded on video and circulated on a WhatsApp group.

Action by Animal Welfare Volunteers

Rajnikanth Chauhan, whose wife runs an animal care center in Jamnagar, watched the video at around 3:30 pm and immediately sprang into action. With the help of his wife and a local resident, Chauhan traced the video's location to Block No-6 of Kukda Kendra Aavas. Upon arriving at the scene, Chauhan learned that bystanders had already contacted the Safe Animal Helpline. The injured dog was rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment and was later moved to the Safe Animal Welfare Center, where its medical care is currently ongoing.

Legal Action

Chauhan formally lodged a complaint on Tuesday. Following this, the Jamnagar police booked Papubhai under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11(1)(L) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Several local animal advocates and residents have been named as witnesses, pledging their support to ensure the accused faces strict legal consequences.
