The Indian government has expressed deep regret over the renewed military strikes in West Asia, stating that the latest developments are of utmost concern to the international community. In an official statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) called upon all parties involved to immediately de-escalate tensions, ensure the safety of civilians, and resume ongoing negotiations to achieve a diplomatic solution that can restore peace and stability to the region.
Government's Stance on the Conflict
The government noted that the conflict has now persisted for over 100 days, causing immense human suffering and severely impacting the global economy and energy supplies. The statement emphasized the urgent need for all sides to exercise restraint and prioritize the well-being of innocent civilians caught in the crossfire.
Advisory for Indian Nationals in Iran
Following the fresh military strikes, India reiterated its warning to Indian nationals residing in or traveling to Iran. The embassy issued an advisory on social media platform X, urging all Indian citizens to avoid any travel to Iran and to exit the country using available means of transport. The advisory stated: "In view of the latest developments in the region, the Embassy reiterates its earlier advice to all Indian nationals to avoid any travel to Iran. Indian nationals presently in Iran are also advised to exit the country by available means of transport."
This advisory comes after Israel launched airstrikes targeting central and western Iran on Monday, in response to missile fire from Tehran. Earlier, on April 7, India had issued a similar advisory asking Indians in Iran to stay where they were for 48 hours, following a warning from US President Donald Trump that a "whole civilisation will die tonight" if Iran did not end its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
