Iranian Missiles Target Israeli Territory, IDF Confirms Interception

In a significant escalation of regional tensions, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed on Saturday that missiles were launched from Iran toward the territory of Israel. The Israeli military reported that air defence systems were promptly activated to intercept the incoming threat, marking a direct confrontation between the two nations.

Emergency Alerts and Safety Directives Issued

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) stated in a post on X that missiles had been detected heading toward Israeli territory, leading to the activation of defence systems. The Home Front Command issued preliminary directives directly to mobile phones in relevant areas, urging residents to follow safety instructions. The public is requested to exercise responsibility and act in accordance with the directives—they save lives, the IAF emphasized. Residents were instructed to enter protected spaces upon receiving alerts and remain there until further notice, with exit permitted only after explicit directives from authorities.

Iranian Claims and Regional Developments

Meanwhile, Iran's state-run broadcaster Press TV reported that Iranian missiles had struck targets in what it referred to as the occupied territories, including the Nevatim Airbase in Israel. Additionally, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have successfully shot down five US-Israeli drones over several Iranian cities within three hours using an advanced air defence system. According to Iranian state media, the intercepted aircraft included Hermes UAV, Orbiter 4, and MQ-9 Reaper drones. Press TV further reported that several drones from Iran had been launched toward US-Israeli bases in the region.

Reward Announcement and US Aircraft Crash

In a separate development, the group known as the Islamic Resistance in Iraq announced a reward of 150 million Iraqi dinars for information leading to the killing or arrest of senior US military officials, intelligence personnel, or agents, as reported by Press TV. Earlier, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that all six crew members aboard a US KC-135 refuelling aircraft that crashed in western Iraq on March 12 have died, adding to the complex regional dynamics.

This incident underscores the heightened volatility in the Middle East, with both nations engaging in military actions that could have broader implications for regional stability. The IDF continues to monitor the situation closely, urging vigilance among the Israeli public.
