Pig Slogan Sparks Outrage in Mira Road Housing Society Clash

Tensions escalated dramatically in Maharashtra's Mira Road after members linked to Bajrang Dal allegedly attempted to bring a pig near a housing society during protests over goats being kept on the premises ahead of Bakrid. A provocative slogan — “If you slaughter a goat, we will slaughter a pig” — further intensified the situation, prompting police intervention before the situation could escalate further.

Background of the Dispute

The dispute began at Poonam Cluster housing society, where residents objected to goats being brought inside the complex for festival-related preparations. Videos of heated exchanges went viral on social media, and reports also indicated that one person was injured during the altercation. The incident has raised concerns about communal harmony in the area.

Police and Municipal Action

Following the escalation, the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation removed around 40 to 50 goats from the society premises and shifted them to a designated civic location. Heavy police deployment was seen in the area as authorities worked to prevent further unrest. While some protesters claimed the pig was meant for a “Varaha Puja,” others accused them of provoking communal tension.
