SGPC Condemns Killing of Sikh Couple in Pakistan Gurdwara

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has strongly condemned the killing of a couple inside a gurdwara in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami expressed outrage over the murder of Jagannath and Asma Vanti, who were serving at a gurdwara in Mardan city when unidentified assailants allegedly shot them dead.

The attack, which took place within the premises of a Sikh place of worship, has sent shockwaves through the Sikh community on both sides of the border.

Condemning the killings, Dhami stated that the perpetrators had violated the sanctity of a sacred religious institution by targeting an innocent couple engaged in religious service.

“The murder of a Sikh couple inside a gurdwara is not merely a criminal act but a grave assault on religious freedom and the security of minorities,” he said.

The SGPC chief noted that the attack has once again raised serious questions about the safety of community members and the protection of Sikh religious sites in Pakistan. He urged the Pakistan government to launch a thorough investigation, arrest the culprits without delay, and ensure exemplary punishment for those responsible.

Dhami expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and prayed for the peace of the departed souls.
