Tragic London Fire Claims Life of Andhra Pradesh MBA Student
A 28-year-old youth from Andhra Pradesh, India, has died in a devastating house fire in Croydon, South London. The victim, identified as G Abhishek from Peddapuram in Kakinada district, had moved to the United Kingdom in 2023 to pursue a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The fire broke out in a derelict two-storey house located on Duppas Hill Terrace, adjacent to the A232 Croydon Flyover. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) reported that the blaze erupted around 1:30 am on Monday, February 23, rapidly engulfing both the ground and first floors of the building.

Approximately 40 firefighters from the London Fire Brigade were deployed to combat the intense flames. The emergency response involved six fire engines dispatched from multiple stations across the area, including Croydon, Wallington, Woodside, and other nearby locations.
Firefighters worked tirelessly to bring the blaze under control, successfully containing it by 2:47 am, according to official statements from the LFB. The rapid response helped prevent further casualties and property damage in the surrounding neighborhood.
Family Background and Investigation
G Abhishek's father, Oscar Rao, serves as a community health officer in Andhra Pradesh and holds the position of secretary for the Andhra Pradesh Medical Employees Association. The family is now grappling with the sudden loss of their son who had traveled abroad for higher education.
Both the London Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan Police have initiated a joint investigation to determine the exact cause of the deadly fire. Authorities are examining the derelict property and circumstances surrounding the incident to establish what triggered the blaze that claimed the young student's life.
Community Impact and Safety Concerns
The tragic death has sent shockwaves through both the Indian community in London and Abhishek's hometown in Andhra Pradesh. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about fire safety in derelict buildings and the vulnerabilities faced by international students living abroad.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging property owners and residents to maintain proper fire safety measures, particularly in older or abandoned structures that may pose increased risks during emergency situations.
