Former Family Member Speaks Out on Controversial ICE Killing
The tragic death of Renee Nicole Good continues to reverberate across America. The 37-year-old poet and mother was shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, sparking nationwide protests and intense political debate. Her family members have expressed profound grief while criticizing the Trump administration's response to the incident.
A Republican Relative Breaks His Silence
Timmy Macklin, the ex-father-in-law of Renee Good, has now shared his perspective on the controversial shooting. Macklin is the grandfather of Good's six-year-old son Emerson and the father of her late second husband, Tim Macklin Jr., who passed away in 2023.
Appearing on CNN's Erin Burnett OutFront, Macklin described the situation as difficult for everyone involved. "I'm not blaming anybody," he stated during the interview. "The ICE agent, you know, at first I didn't see the footage where he was actually being rammed. I've seen the bumper of the car hitting his legs. In a flash like that, it's hard to say how you would react."
Mixed Feelings About Good's Actions
Macklin, who identifies as a proud Republican and Trump supporter, expressed conflicted emotions about his former daughter-in-law. "Do I agree with everything that she did? Absolutely not," he said about Good. The deeply religious man described Good's wife Becca as a "great person" but added his spiritual perspective.
"I think there's some bad choices... if we're walking in the spirit of God, I don't think she would have been there. That's the way I look at it," Macklin explained during the television appearance.
Criticism of the ICE Agent's Conduct
The former family member did not hesitate to criticize ICE agent Jonathan Ross, who shot Good in the head on January 7, 2026. Video footage shows Ross calling Good offensive names after the incident.
Macklin directly addressed the agent's behavior, saying "His statement that he made after the incident, the things he called her, I mean, that's definitely showing evidence that he don't know the Lord like he should." He suggested Ross needs to turn to the Bible for guidance.
Reaction to Trump's Comments
When presented with President Trump's response to the killing, Macklin maintained his political allegiance. Trump had described Good as potentially "a very solid, wonderful person" under normal circumstances but criticized her actions as "pretty tough."
"I'm a Trump supporter myself," Macklin affirmed. He then offered a more personal reflection on Good, saying "Renee was an amazing person, she was full of life, full of joy, a real gentle, good mother. I just think we make bad choices and that's the problem."
The Minneapolis shooting has exposed deep divisions in American society regarding immigration enforcement. Good's death has become a flashpoint in debates about ICE operations and their consequences. Family members continue to mourn while political figures offer competing narratives about what transpired that January day.
