Trump Calls Woman Shot by ICE Agent 'Wonderful Person' But Defends Actions
Trump on ICE Shooting: 'Wonderful Person' But 'Tough Actions'

Trump Comments on Fatal ICE Shooting in Minneapolis

US President Donald Trump offered his perspective on a recent fatal shooting involving an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent. He spoke about 37-year-old Renee Good, who was shot last week in Minneapolis while driving her SUV.

Mixed Assessment of the Victim

During an interview with CBS Evening News, Trump shared his thoughts on Good. He stated he believed she was probably a "very, solid, wonderful person" under normal circumstances. However, he quickly added that her actions just before the shooting were "pretty tough."

The President's comments came in response to questions about Good's father, Timothy Ganger. Ganger is a Trump supporter who spoke with CBS last week. He described his daughter as warm and witty, someone who wrote poetry and taught English. Ganger expressed heartbreak that the Trump administration quickly labeled Good a "domestic terrorist."

Defending ICE and the Administration's Stance

Trump strongly defended ICE during the interview. The agency has increased its presence in the Minneapolis area as part of a broader deportation campaign. The President emphasized that ICE agents are "working very hard" to arrest and deport individuals. He noted their job is being made "very, very difficult."

The administration maintains the ICE agent acted in self-defense. Officials accused Good of attempting to ram the agent with her SUV. Trump previously alleged she was "very disorderly, obstructing and resisting." This stance has faced significant criticism from local officials and some law enforcement experts.

Controversy Over the Shooting and Video Evidence

Local authorities have blasted ICE, calling the shooting unjustified. Several law enforcement experts criticized the agent's decision to position himself in front of Good's moving vehicle. The incident has sparked a heated debate about immigration enforcement tactics.

Late last week, the Trump administration released a cellphone video recorded by the ICE officer involved. The footage shows the incident from the agent's perspective. In the video, the agent approaches Good's SUV and moves to the front of the car. The video then jerks away as the vehicle begins to move, and gunshots are audible.

Trump commented on the video evidence, saying, "When you look at that tape, it— it can be viewed two ways, I guess. But when you look at the way … that car was pulled away, there are a couple versions of that tape that are very, very bad." His remarks highlight the ongoing dispute over interpreting the events leading to Good's death.

The shooting continues to raise serious questions about ICE operations and the use of force in immigration enforcement. The contrasting narratives from the administration, local officials, and the victim's family underscore the deep divisions surrounding this case.
