73 Illicit Liquor Bottles Seized at Courier Godown in Gurgaon

Gurgaon: As many as 73 bottles of illicit liquor, concealed inside shipment boxes labelled as “electric items”, were seized at a delivery company godown on Tawadu Road, police said.

Case Registered Under Excise Act

A case has been registered under Section 61-1-14 of the Excise Act at Bilaspur police station against unidentified persons for illegally transporting liquor through a courier shipment. Police said efforts are underway to identify the sender and intended recipient of the consignment.

X-Ray Scan Raises Suspicion

The consignment, which arrived from New Delhi, raised suspicion during a routine X-ray scan as the images indicated the presence of liquor bottles. Police were immediately informed by the company’s security officer, Mahesh Ladan.

Seizure Details

On reaching the spot, a police team from Bilaspur police station opened three cartons and found liquor hidden inside three blue plastic drums. The seized stock included 14 bottles of Jameson, 5 of Ballantine’s, 24 of Red Label, 6 of Black & White, 12 of Paul John and 12 of William Lawson’s, taking the total to 73 bottles.

Evidence Collection

Police officials collected one sample bottle from each brand and sealed the remaining 67 bottles in the drums. The samples were also sealed separately as part of the procedure.
