Bahraich SI Caught Taking Rs 5,000 Bribe

A sub-inspector posted at Risia police station in Bahraich was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 during an operation conducted by the anti-corruption team on Monday. The accused officer was arrested from the police station premises immediately after accepting the bribe.

Complaint and Investigation

According to officials, the case originated from a complaint filed by Ram Hukum Maurya, a resident of Ramuapur village. The complainant alleged that the sub-inspector demanded Rs 5,000 to avoid adding molestation charges to the case and to prevent his arrest and imprisonment. Following the complaint, the anti-corruption unit of Devipatan Division, Gonda, formed a trap team under the supervision of inspector Dhananjay Kumar Singh.

Trap and Arrest

The team laid a strategic trap and apprehended the officer while he was allegedly receiving the bribe from the complainant. He was taken into custody and subsequently brought to Kotwali Dehat police station in Bahraich for further proceedings. A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
