A late-night alert from a vigilant passer-by helped a car owner in Bengaluru thwart an attempted theft in the Rajendra Nagar area. The incident occurred around midnight on June 8, when unidentified miscreants targeted three vehicles: a Maruti Swift Dzire, a Maruti Ertiga, and a Toyota Innova, all parked in the locality.
Sequence of Events
According to the complaint filed by social activist David Kumar N, he received a phone call around 11:30 PM from a passer-by who informed him that a group of individuals was vandalizing his Swift Dzire car. Rushing to the spot, David found a man sitting inside his vehicle after smashing the window glass, while the other suspects fled the scene.
Allegations of Document Theft
David alleged that he had left pen drives and documents related to a government land encroachment dispute currently before a court in his car. He claimed the vandals specifically targeted his vehicle to steal these documents. The miscreants also damaged two other cars parked nearby.
Arrest and Legal Action
Residents of the area managed to apprehend one of the suspects, identified as Kalib, and handed him over to the police. A case has been registered at the Koramangala police station under Sections 303 (theft) and 324 (mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The swift action by the passer-by and the community highlights the importance of vigilance in preventing crime. The police are investigating the incident and searching for the remaining suspects.
