The Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) of the Chandigarh administration has generated over Rs 4.1 crore by auctioning fancy registration numbers from the newly introduced CH-01-DE series. However, 48 numbers failed to attract any bidders and will be offered again in a future auction.
Auction Process and Leftover Numbers
According to officials, these leftover numbers fall exclusively under the auction category and cannot be allocated through routine registration procedures. Previously, such leftover numbers were auctioned separately, but now they will be included alongside fancy and choice numbers of upcoming vehicle series. Bidders will be given sufficient time to register and participate.
The unsold numbers include double, triple, and four-digit combinations, with reserve prices ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000. The RLA anticipates fetching a substantial amount by re-auctioning them together with numbers from fresh series.
Revenue and Transparency
Auctioning fancy and choice registration numbers remains a key revenue stream for the Chandigarh administration. To maximize participation, the RLA widely advertises the auctions. Before launching a new series, the authority allows one week for registration, followed by three days of bidding. Officials emphasize that the process is designed to ensure transparency and encourage maximum public participation. With growing demand for distinctive registration numbers, the RLA expects the upcoming auction to generate significant interest.
