Mysuru: City police commissioner Seema Latkar announced that four complaints have been registered in connection with an alleged gold pledge fraud involving Soundar Raj, also known as Chinna Thambi. Victims are urged to approach the investigating officer at the CCB office to submit their complaints.
Modus Operandi of the Accused
According to police, Soundar Raj alias Chinna Thambi operated through various gold trading firms. He allegedly lured customers by offering loans against gold at interest rates lower than the market rate and by promising higher prices for gold ornaments. After collecting gold ornaments from customers through purchase and pledge transactions, he failed to provide the agreed value for the pledged gold. Furthermore, he is accused of melting and misusing the ornaments, thereby cheating the customers.
Legal Proceedings
A case has been registered at the Kuvempu Nagar police station, and the accused has been arrested. The police have appealed to members of the public who may have been cheated after pledging gold with Soundar Raj alias Chinna Thambi to visit the assistant commissioner of police, CCB Unit, Mysuru City, along with all relevant documents for further legal action.
Victims Seek Justice
It can be recalled that several victims had approached the Mysuru police and the Karnataka State Commission for Women seeking justice. They alleged that their pledged ornaments were misused by the accused. The police are continuing their investigation and have urged any additional victims to come forward.
