The Final Hurdle: Interview Process and Selection Criteria
Candidates who have successfully cleared the mains examination will now advance to the final selection round, which consists of a group discussion and a personal interview. The interview will be conducted by IBPS in partnership with the participating banks.
The interview carries 100 marks. To qualify, general category candidates need to secure a minimum of 40% marks, while reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC/PWD) must obtain at least 35% marks.
During the interview, aspirants will be assessed on several key parameters including their knowledge of banking awareness, communication skills, overall personality, confidence, and understanding of situational problems.
The final merit list for provisional allotment to banks will be prepared using a combined weightage system. The Mains examination will account for 80% of the total score, and the interview will contribute the remaining 20%. Following the announcement of the final merit list, selected candidates will undergo document verification to confirm their eligibility.
Important Details and Pay Scale for IBPS PO
It is important to note that candidates had to secure both the minimum sectional cut-off and the overall cut-off in the mains exam to be shortlisted for the interview. The final cut-offs are determined based on the number of vacancies available.
For perspective, in the previous recruitment cycle, the IBPS PO Mains exam was held on November 30, and the results were declared on January 31.
Upon final selection, candidates appointed as Probationary Officers can expect an attractive compensation package. The starting basic pay is in the range of Rs. 52,000 to Rs. 55,000 per month. This is supplemented by various allowances such as House Rent Allowance (HRA), special allowances, and other perks. The salary sees a significant rise with promotions over time, making it a highly sought-after career in the public banking sector.
Aspiring bankers are advised to prepare diligently for the upcoming interview round, which is the last step towards securing a prestigious PO position in a public sector bank.
