Jeweller booked for refusing gold ornaments in Dhar

Dhar: Dhamnod police in Dhar district have booked a jeweller for criminal breach of trust after he refused to return gold ornaments pledged as security for a loan.

Complaint Details

Dhamnod police station sub-inspector Rahul Chohan told TOI that 41-year-old Kamal of Shala Baydipura village filed a complaint against jeweller Pankaj Soni. Kamal alleged that he had borrowed Rs 97,000 from Soni in August 2023, keeping his 26 gram gold ornaments as security.

Kamal stated that he regularly paid interest on the borrowed amount. When he went to Soni's shop to clear all dues and retrieve his ornaments, the jeweller refused to return them. Subsequently, Kamal reported the matter to the police.

Investigation Underway

Sub-inspector Chohan said the estimated value of the ornaments is around Rs 4 lakh. A search is on for the accused jeweller, who is currently absconding. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for criminal breach of trust.

Authorities are investigating the matter further and have urged anyone with information to come forward. The complainant has been assured of swift action.
