Kolhapur Bank Boosts Ladki Bahin Loan Limit to Rs 50,000 for Women Entrepreneurs
Kolhapur Bank Raises Ladki Bahin Loan Limit to Rs 50,000

Kolhapur Bank Enhances Financial Support for Women Entrepreneurs

The Kolhapur District Central Cooperative Bank (KDCC) has announced a significant increase in the loan limit for beneficiaries of the Ladki Bahin scheme, raising it from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000. This move aims to empower eligible women to either launch new businesses or expand their existing ventures, providing a substantial financial boost to foster entrepreneurship and economic independence.

Expanding Opportunities Under Tararani Mahila Sakshamikaran Yojana

This initiative is part of the Tararani Mahila Sakshamikaran Yojana, which was launched in April 2025. Since its inception, the bank has successfully extended loans to 16,775 beneficiaries, with a total disbursement of Rs 50.33 crore within the first year alone. KDCC Bank stands out as one of the few financial institutions to introduce a dedicated loan scheme specifically for Ladki Bahin beneficiaries, offering them a lump sum amount for productive investments.

Revised Repayment and Interest Structure

Minister Hasan Mushrif, who serves as the bank chairman, detailed the new terms. Previously, Rs 968 was deducted monthly from the Rs 1,500 financial assistance provided under the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana for loan repayment. Under the revised scheme, the deduction will increase to Rs 1,268 per month to cover the higher loan amount of Rs 50,000, with repayment scheduled over the next three years. The interest rate on these loans has been set at 10%, which officials note is lower than the rates typically charged by most banks on personal loans.

Additional Benefits and Impact on Women Entrepreneurs

To further support women, the bank has introduced an insurance cover for ventures when five to ten beneficiaries jointly apply for a loan to start a business. This added security encourages collaborative entrepreneurship and reduces financial risks. In the first year, many beneficiaries utilized the loan funds to purchase small machinery, such as sewing machines and papad-making units, enabling them to either initiate or grow their businesses. This initiative has also helped women avoid private moneylenders, who are known for charging exorbitant interest rates and engaging in harassment during recovery processes.

Broader Context of Maharashtra's Support Schemes

The Maharashtra government is actively implementing the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, which provides eligible women with Rs 1,500 per month as financial assistance. This scheme, combined with KDCC Bank's enhanced loan offerings, creates a comprehensive support system aimed at uplifting women economically and socially. By increasing access to affordable credit, these efforts are designed to promote sustainable business growth and reduce dependency on informal lending sources.
