NMC collects Rs 76.19 crore in property tax in April, up 61.71% from last year
NMC property tax collection surges 61.71% in April

The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has reported a significant surge in property tax collections for April, attributing the growth to its early-payment incentive scheme. The civic body collected Rs 76.19 crore in the first month of the financial year, marking a 61.71% increase compared to Rs 49.99 crore collected during the same period last year.

Early Payment Rebate Drives Collection

The increase follows the introduction of an 8% rebate for property owners who pay their annual dues in a single installment within the first month of the financial year. Civic officials confirmed that approximately 1.55 lakh property owners availed of this scheme in April, collectively receiving rebates worth Rs 4 crore. The strong response has boosted the administration's confidence in achieving its property tax target for the current fiscal year.

Ambitious Target for 2026-27

The NMC has set an ambitious collection target of Rs 285 crore for 2026-27, significantly higher than last year's record-breaking collection of Rs 187 crore. This previous record was the highest ever since the civic body was established 43 years ago. Officials believe the tiered rebate structure, which offers 8% in April, 6% in May, and 3% in June, along with an additional 1% concession for online payments, has been effective in encouraging timely compliance and improving cash flow early in the fiscal year.

Divisional Performance

Among the six municipal divisions, Cidco recorded the highest collection at Rs 14.95 crore, followed by Nashik West at Rs 14.24 crore, Nashik Road at Rs 13.32 crore, and Panchavati at Rs 12.95 crore. The remaining tax collections came from Satpur and Nashik East divisions.

Structural Reforms to Sustain Growth

The civic body is also focusing on structural reforms to sustain revenue growth. Efforts are underway to identify under-assessed and unassessed properties and bring them into the tax net. Nashik currently has around 6.22 lakh registered properties across its six divisions, with Panchavati and Cidco together accounting for nearly 48% of the total base. Cidco, in particular, has witnessed rapid expansion, with the number of properties rising by 54% from 97,517 in 2017-18 to nearly 1.49 lakh in 2025-26.
