In a shocking incident in Patna's Naubatpur police station area, the body of a 23-year-old newlywed woman was exhumed from 10 feet below the ground on Saturday. The exhumation was carried out in the presence of a magistrate after police suspected foul play. The deceased, a resident of Ajma village, was married in February 2026 and allegedly murdered by her in-laws and accomplices in a suspected dowry-related case.
Burial Using JCB Machine and Attempt to Destroy Evidence
According to police, the accused buried the body deep in a field using a JCB machine and set the area on fire to destroy any evidence. The woman's in-laws had initially approached the Naubatpur police station claiming she died by suicide on April 22. However, the failure to recover the body immediately raised serious suspicions.
Police Investigation and Recovery
City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh, present at the spot, stated that a special team was formed under the leadership of SDPO II Phulwarisharif, including the SHO of Naubatpur and technical/intelligence personnel. Through effective intelligence and meticulous investigation, the police team located the burial site. The body was recovered and sent for post-mortem examination. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was also called to collect evidence.
Accused and Legal Action
Preliminary investigation revealed that the entire family of the in-laws, along with five to seven other individuals, was involved in the planned murder. Singh said serious cases under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including murder, dowry death, and destruction of evidence, are being registered against the accused. Police have launched raids at multiple locations to arrest all those involved. Further legal proceedings are underway. The police administration has assured strict action and expressed confidence in securing conviction so the guilty do not escape justice.
FIR Registered Against Accused
Phulwarisharif SDPO II Deepak Kumar confirmed that an FIR has been registered against six named accused and five to seven unidentified individuals. All the accused are absconding after committing the crime. The investigation is ongoing, and police are working to apprehend the culprits.
