Mumbai: An unidentified person stole the wallet of a police constable in mufti from his bag in a bus and withdrew Rs 43,500 using his debit cards last week. The BKC police, who filed an FIR, said constable Bhanudas Nalkande (51) was headed for the armed police force headquarters in Kalina as part of Maharashtra Police Sports Competition's security arrangements on April 25.
Incident Details
Shortly after he alighted from the bus, Nalkande received an SMS notification that Rs 10,000 had been withdrawn from his bank account. He then discovered that a total of Rs 43,500 had been siphoned off. Upon checking his bag, he found his wallet missing. The wallet contained two debit cards along with their PINs written on slips of paper.
Police Investigation
An officer stated that the police are examining CCTV footage from the bus and surrounding areas to identify the suspect. The constable was on duty for the security arrangements of the Maharashtra Police Sports Competition at the time of the incident.
This incident highlights the risk of carrying PINs along with debit cards. Authorities advise citizens to memorize PINs and avoid keeping them with cards to prevent such fraud.
