Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap has issued a directive to all government and private banks operating in the district to expand their banking outreach and ensure that adequate credit support reaches eligible beneficiaries in a timely manner. The order came during a meeting of the District-Level Quarterly Review and Advisory Committee, where Kashyap emphasized the need for stronger financial inclusion and improved implementation of loan schemes and banking services.
Regular Reviews and Financial Literacy Camps
Kashyap announced that a review meeting will be conducted every 60 days to assess the progress of banking services, loan disbursement, and the implementation of various public welfare schemes. The next meeting is scheduled for August 24, 2026. During the meeting, officials reported that 729 financial literacy camps were organized across Shimla district between January 1 and March 31, 2026. The Deputy Commissioner instructed banks to coordinate with elected representatives of respective panchayats before conducting such camps to ensure wider dissemination of information about government schemes.
Loan Disbursement Achievements
In the last financial year, loans totaling Rs 28.45 crore were disbursed for setting up micro food processing units in the district. Under the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme, loans worth Rs 3,846.82 crore were extended to 67,900 account holders. District banks surpassed their priority sector targets, achieving 53.91 percent, while the non-priority sector recorded an achievement of 624.22 percent. The overall achievement stood at 97.98 percent.
Deputy Commissioner’s Statement
“This will not only benefit vulnerable sections of society but also help banks achieve their targets. With coordinated efforts, Shimla district can emerge as one of the leading districts in the state,” Kashyap said. Senior officials from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), NABARD, and various banks attended the meeting, underscoring the collaborative approach to strengthening the district’s banking infrastructure.
