Delhi Police on Tuesday clarified that an image of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, widely shared on social media platforms, is not authentic but generated using artificial intelligence. The police urged citizens to verify the credibility of such content before sharing it further.
Police Statement on Viral Image
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Delhi Police official handle stated, "An image of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar is being circulated on social media. It is AI-generated and not authentic. We advise everyone to refrain from sharing unverified content." The post did not specify any legal action but emphasized the need for digital literacy.
Context and Warnings
The clarification comes amid growing concerns over deepfakes and AI-generated imagery targeting historical figures. According to cyber experts, such images can be used to spread false narratives. "The sophistication of AI tools makes it increasingly difficult to distinguish real from fake," said a Delhi Police cyber cell officer, requesting anonymity. The police have not identified the original source of the image as of now.
Public Advisory
Delhi Police advised netizens to cross-check any suspicious content through official sources or fact-checking platforms. "If you come across such images, report them to the cyber helpline or the nearest police station," the advisory added. The department also shared tips to identify AI-generated visuals, including looking for unnatural textures, inconsistent lighting, and odd facial proportions.
