The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new feature enabling Aadhaar holders to add or update their email ID directly through the Aadhaar App, eliminating the need to visit an Aadhaar centre. The service, effective from July 1, 2026, will remain free for a period of six months, according to a statement by the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology.
How the New Service Works
Users can now update their email ID via the Aadhaar App available on both Android and Apple iOS platforms. The service is entirely free during the promotional period. Within just two days of the launch, more than 250,000 individuals have already updated their email addresses using the platform, as per the official release.

Previous Success with Mobile and Address Updates
UIDAI has already seen significant adoption of its app-based services. So far, over 40 million people have updated their mobile numbers using the Aadhaar App, while around one million users have updated their address details through the platform.
