Following the release of the first instalment under the Punjab Government's Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana, a surge of women has been approaching Seva Kendras and anganwadi centres for registration. However, repeated server outages are disrupting online services, causing difficulties for both applicants and staff.
Increased Public Confidence After First Payments
District administration officials confirmed that the successful transfer of financial assistance into eligible beneficiaries' bank accounts has significantly boosted public confidence. Initially, many women were sceptical about receiving benefits under the welfare initiative. According to officials, nearly 1.88 lakh women have already received the first instalment since the scheme's launch on July 1.
Pawandeep Kaur, a homemaker, reported that applicants waited for hours on Thursday but faced repeated server outages and disruptions. She said she had to return empty-handed despite waiting several hours. Another applicant, Anuradha, stated that her form had been filled, but staff asked her to return on Monday to complete the process. She had been uncertain whether the scheme would be implemented or if promised funds would reach beneficiaries.
Long Queues and Technical Glitches
Long queues of women were observed on Thursday at the Seva Kendra in the District Administrative Complex (Mini Secretariat) and at several other centres across Amritsar. Many women decided to register after seeing relatives and neighbours receive the first instalment directly into their bank accounts, hoping to benefit in upcoming phases.
Around 1,900 anganwadi centres across Amritsar district are actively assisting with registrations. Anganwadi workers and helpers are helping applicants complete documentation and online formalities to ensure all eligible beneficiaries are covered. The sudden surge in applications has put considerable pressure on the online registration portal, causing temporary technical glitches at some centres. However, registration services continued despite intermittent delays, with technical teams working to restore normal functioning.
