Chandigarh: The UT administration has successfully auctioned all 97 retail liquor vends for 2026–27, achieving full allotment for the first time in a decade.
Strong Participation and Higher Bids
The auction drew strong participation, with bids totalling ₹563.78 crore against a reserve price of ₹453.05 crore—an increase of ₹110.73 crore (24.44%). Officials said the response reflects trade confidence in the administration’s excise policy.
Record Revenue Expected
“The auction is expected to generate the highest-ever excise revenue for Chandigarh,” an official said, adding that the department has set a ₹1,000 crore target for 2026–27.
The excise department has also reported a robust start to the year, with collections of ₹199.78 crore by May 31—nearly 20% of the annual target within two months.
Fair and Competitive Process
Officials said the process was fair and competitive, ensuring optimal revenue, which will support development and public welfare initiatives.
