Chandigarh Power Demand Plunges from 421MW to 292MW After Rains
Chandigarh Power Demand Drops to 292MW After Rain

Chandigarh: After reaching a season-high peak demand of 421MW earlier this week amid intense heat, the city saw a sharp drop in electricity consumption on Friday, with peak load falling to 292MW following rain and a dip in temperatures.

Recent Trends in Power Demand

The turnaround comes after steadily rising demand in early June as residents relied heavily on air conditioners and cooling appliances. Data shows peak load at 272MW on June 1, rising to 318MW (June 2), 359MW (June 3), and 374MW (June 4). A brief dip to 319MW was recorded on June 5 amid cooler weather.

Demand soon climbed again — 330MW (June 6), 341MW (June 7), 379MW (June 8), and 398MW (June 9) — before crossing 420MW to hit 421MW on Wednesday.

Impact of Weather on Consumption

The recent rainfall and drop in temperatures have significantly reduced the need for cooling appliances, leading to the sharp decline in power demand. The city's power infrastructure managed the fluctuating load efficiently.
