Chhattisgarh Cabinet Approves Partial Bitumen Price Compensation for Road Contractors
Chhattisgarh Cabinet OKs Bitumen Price Relief for Road Works

The Chhattisgarh cabinet, led by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, approved a partial compensation package on Tuesday to support road contractors facing a sharp and unforeseen increase in bitumen prices. The decision, taken during a meeting at Mahanadi Bhawan in Nava Raipur, aims to prevent a slowdown in road construction across the state.

Compensation Details

The relief applies to contracts executed between April 1 and June 30, 2025. It covers only the extraordinary rise in bitumen prices through a limited compensation formula. Officials stated that the move ensures ongoing road construction and maintenance works do not stall amid rising petroleum-linked input costs.

Rationale Behind the Decision

The state government noted that global market conditions triggered an abnormal increase in bitumen rates, impacting asphalt works and heightening the risk of project delays. By offering partial compensation, the cabinet aims to mitigate financial stress on contractors and maintain infrastructure momentum.

Staff Selection Board Restructuring

In another decision, the cabinet approved bringing the Chhattisgarh Staff Selection Board under the General Administration Department by amending the state's allocation of business rules. This follows the implementation of the Chhattisgarh Staff Selection Board Act, 2026, which merged the erstwhile Professional Examination Board into the new recruitment body along with its assets and liabilities.

These measures reflect the government's commitment to addressing immediate economic challenges while streamlining administrative processes for efficient governance.
