In a fresh blow to commuters in the national capital region, the price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) has been hiked by Re 1 per kilogram, following recent increases in petrol and diesel prices. The revised rates came into effect from 6 am on May 23, 2026.
New CNG Rates in Delhi-NCR
After the hike, CNG in Delhi is now priced at Rs 73.60 per kg, while in Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram, the fuel costs Rs 76.50 per kg. The price revision was announced by Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), which supplies CNG to the region.
Reason Behind the Hike
The increase in CNG prices is attributed to the rise in input costs, as the government had earlier raised the price of natural gas. This is the first CNG price revision in several months, and it comes on the back of two consecutive hikes in petrol and diesel prices since the beginning of the month.
Impact on Commuters
The price hike is expected to impact the daily travel budget of thousands of commuters who rely on CNG-powered vehicles, including auto-rickshaws, taxis, and private cars. With the summer season already putting pressure on household expenses, the additional burden on fuel costs is a cause for concern.
Petrol and Diesel Prices Remain Elevated
Meanwhile, petrol and diesel prices have also remained high. In Delhi, petrol costs Rs 94.77 per litre, while diesel is priced at Rs 87.67 per litre. In Noida, petrol is at Rs 94.93 per litre, and diesel at Rs 87.89 per litre. The rates vary slightly across cities due to local taxes and freight charges.
What Lies Ahead?
Analysts suggest that fuel prices may remain volatile in the coming months, depending on global crude oil prices and the government's fiscal policies. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly and explore alternative modes of transport where possible.
