Dr Sunita Dube, Chairperson of MedscapeIndia Medical Education Trust, alongside National Medical Commission (NMC) Chairman Dr Abhijat Sheth and Union Ministers, launched the Red Alert De-Escalation System and Medical Sainik initiative at the 9th Fit India Conclave 2026 in New Delhi. The event marked the beginning of FitIndia 2.0, a mission described as "Doctor-Led, Citizen-Owned and Nation-Aligned."
White Paper Reveals Alarming Violence Statistics
MedscapeIndia, in partnership with Grant Thornton Bharat, released a White Paper titled "Prevention of Assault on Healthcare Professionals." Key findings include: 75% of doctors in India experience physical or verbal violence during their careers; 78% workplace violence prevalence is among the highest globally; only 18% of incidents are formally reported to the police; and 48% go unreported entirely due to fear of inaction.
Dr Dube emphasized a "paradigm shift from treatment to prevention" as she unveiled the comprehensive safety framework.
National Zero-Tolerance Framework
The White Paper proposes a National Zero-Tolerance Framework including stronger Violence Prevention Acts, uniform legal protection for healthcare workers, structured doctor-patient communication, standardized clinical protocols, and institutional accountability. It advocates for Zero-Violence Safe Zones in hospitals equipped with trained security personnel, panic buttons, biometric access control, CCTV surveillance, dedicated communication officers, and technology-enabled emergency response systems.
Red Alert De-Escalation System Launched
The centerpiece of the conclave was the launch of the National Healthcare Safety Red Alert & De-escalation System, a real-time emergency response framework designed to protect healthcare professionals immediately.
High-Profile Attendance and Support
The conclave, marking 21 years of MedscapeIndia Foundation and 12 years of the Fit India Healthcare Movement, drew over 500 healthcare leaders and representatives from 58 national medical associations. Attendees included Union Minister Piyush Goyal (virtual), Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, NMC Chairman Dr Abhijat Sheth, former IPS officer Dr Kiran Bedi, former Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, MP Kalge Shivaji Bandappa, and numerous healthcare experts.
Shri Piyush Goyal stated, "Doctors are the backbone of our healthcare system. Their safety, dignity and well-being must remain a national priority, as they are fundamental to delivering accessible, affordable and quality healthcare to every citizen."
Broader National Initiatives
Several other initiatives were launched: Bharat Lifesaver Mission aiming to make India the "World's First Lifesaver Nation" through CPR literacy and citizen empowerment; TARA Cancer Initiative for cancer awareness and early detection; National Healthcare Thought Leadership White Paper; MedscapeIndia Healthcare Declaration; and Medical Sainik, a Counsellor & 360 Healthcare Support Network for emotional well-being of doctors.
CPR Literacy Target
The event celebrated 12 years of the Train India Train the Trainer CPR Programme, which has trained over 2.5 million citizens since 2014. Dr Dube set a new target: raising India's CPR literacy from roughly 2% to 25% by 2030. MPs, cabinet ministers, and healthcare leaders were felicitated as CPR Patrons, Ambassadors, and Warriors.
