Kolkata: Hours after Abhishek Banerjee moved the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday seeking protection from any coercive action by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in the MLA signatures forgery case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) issued summons to the Trinamool Congress national general secretary in the teachers' recruitment case.
He was asked to appear at the ED's Kolkata zonal office on June 15 in connection with the probe into the alleged irregularities in appointments.
Meanwhile, officers from Kalighat police station removed the police kiosks, barricades, scanner machines, and other surveillance equipment stationed outside the Diamond Harbour MP's residence, Shantiniketan.
Earlier, on a verbal prayer by Abhishek's lawyers, a vacation bench of Justice Apurba Sinha Ray granted permission to file a petition challenging the First Information Report (FIR) in the signatures forgery case and seeking interim protection from any coercive action by the CID. The case is likely to be heard on Friday.
Abhishek had skipped the CID summons on Monday, citing health reasons, and sought a few weeks' time to appear before the investigating agency.
