In a significant breakthrough, the Gopiganj police in Bhadohi district have arrested Ajay Kumar, an associate of the notorious Raju Seth gang, which specialized in certifying fake jewellery as genuine to fraudulently secure gold loans from banks.
Details of the Arrest
The arrest was made following an investigation into the gang's activities. Bhadohi Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhinav Tyagi confirmed that Raju Seth and 21 other members of his gang, including Ajay Kumar, have been booked under the Gangsters Act. The gang is accused of causing substantial financial losses to banks by presenting fake jewellery as collateral for gold loans.
Modus Operandi
The gang's method involved certifying counterfeit jewellery as authentic, thereby deceiving bank officials into approving loans. This fraudulent practice not only resulted in monetary losses for the financial institutions but also undermined the integrity of the loan system.
Legal Action
According to SP Tyagi, cases have been registered against Seth and his associates under charges of forgery, fraud, and criminal conspiracy. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover the full extent of the gang's operations and to identify any other individuals involved.
