Gujarat Unveils Strategic Roadmap to Achieve $1 Trillion Economy by 2030
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) hosted its Gujarat Annual Session in Ahmedabad, focusing on the conference theme 'Gujarat @$1 Trillion Economy'. This pivotal event brought together industry leaders and government officials to deliberate on the state's future industrial trajectory and economic ambitions.
Chief Minister's Vision for Economic Transformation
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel articulated a clear vision, asserting that Gujarat is on track to become a $1 trillion economy by 2030. He credited this ambitious goal to the development path envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing the state government's commitment to providing comprehensive support in partnership with industrialists.
Reflecting on Gujarat's economic evolution, Patel noted that development was once confined to the Vapi-Vadodara belt. However, under the Prime Minister's leadership, a focus on inclusive growth has led to significant enhancements in critical infrastructure, such as water and electricity supply across the entire state.
Gujarat's Economic Strengths and Global Appeal
The Chief Minister highlighted Gujarat's emergence as a premier destination for global investors, largely due to the success of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit initiated in 2003. He cited the example of Micron Technology, illustrating how strong international trust in India's leadership has attracted advanced industries like semiconductors to Gujarat, turning once-impossible dreams into reality.
Patel proudly detailed Gujarat's substantial economic contributions: despite comprising only 5% of India's population, the state accounts for 8% of the national GDP, with an aim to exceed 10%. In manufacturing, Gujarat represents 17% of the country's total production, while its export contribution stands at an impressive 33% of India's total exports.
Growth Across Key Sectors
The MSME sector in Gujarat has witnessed remarkable expansion, with the number of enterprises soaring from 1.85 lakh in 2001-02 to 27.9 lakh today. In logistics, the state handles 40% of India's total cargo, underscoring its pivotal role in national trade networks.
Sector-wise, Gujarat dominates with a 33% share in the chemical industry, 19.2% in pharmaceutical exports, and a staggering 80% in diamond exports. These figures underscore the state's diversified and robust industrial base.
Policy-Driven Approach and Future Roadmap
Emphasizing Gujarat's status as a 'policy-driven state', Patel explained that clear and transparent policies have been formulated to support industrialists at every stage, with necessary adaptations made to meet evolving needs. The state has already begun implementing a comprehensive roadmap for 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047, aligning local initiatives with national development goals.
Industry Leaders Rally Behind the Vision
The event saw participation from key figures including CII Western Region Chairman Rishikumar Bagla, CII Gujarat Chairman Premraj Kashyap, Vice Chairman Achal Bakeri, and Micron Technology Senior Vice President Gurusharan Singh. Their presence highlighted the collective resolve to transition Gujarat from an industrial powerhouse to a global economic hub, reinforcing the collaborative spirit essential for achieving the $1 trillion target.
