Chandigarh: The Haryana government has approved Rs 912.7 crore for key power infrastructure projects under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). The plan will now be sent to the Power Finance Corporation and the Union power ministry for final clearance.
Projects and Benefits
The Distribution Reforms Committee (DRC), chaired by chief secretary Anurag Rastogi, cleared the plan on Friday. The funding will support loss-reduction works in Palwal Circle, establishment of 30 new 33-kV substations, upgrading of 72 substations, and rollout of SCADA and Distribution Management Systems in Hisar and other towns. These projects are expected to add 1,175 MVA transformation capacity, improve power supply reliability, and enable real-time fault monitoring.
Progress and Performance
Haryana's utilities, Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVNL) and Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVNL), have already reduced technical losses below the national average and improved billing efficiency to over 90%, while maintaining near-perfect collection rates. Ongoing RDSS projects show 40% to 51% physical progress, with completion targeted by 2027-28.
Official Emphasis
Rastogi stressed the need for timely execution, noting that the upgrades will strengthen urban and rural power infrastructure and support the state's rapidly growing industrial and economic activity. The approved projects reaffirm Haryana's position as a frontrunner in national power sector reforms.
