In a welcome move for consumers, Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has announced a significant reduction in the price of domestic Piped Natural Gas (PNG) across the Delhi-National Capital Region. The new, lower tariffs will come into effect just in time for the New Year, offering relief to households.
New Domestic PNG Rates for Key Cities
The price revision, effective from January 1, 2025, applies to all domestic PNG consumers in the company's operational areas. According to the official notification, the domestic PNG price has been slashed by Rs 2.50 per standard cubic meter (SCM).
This reduction brings down the revised price to Rs 53.50 per SCM from the earlier rate of Rs 56.00 per SCM. This price is inclusive of all applicable taxes and is uniform across the major cities served by IGL in the NCR.
The revised tariff will benefit residents in:
- Delhi
- Noida
- Greater Noida
- Gurugram
Impact on Household Budgets and Company Statement
This price cut is expected to ease the monthly expenditure for countless families who rely on PNG for cooking. The reduction follows a trend of adjustments in energy prices and is linked to favorable changes in input costs. IGL, which is a joint venture led by GAIL (India) Limited, BPCL, and the Government of Delhi, is the sole distributor of CNG and PNG in the capital and its adjoining regions.
While the announcement specifically addresses domestic PNG rates, it is important to note that the prices for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) used in vehicles and commercial PNG remain unchanged at this moment. The company has not indicated any immediate revision for these segments.
A New Year Gift for Consumers
The timing of this announcement, right before the New Year celebrations, is being seen as a positive step for consumers. It aligns with a period of increased household consumption and provides tangible financial relief. The move is likely to be welcomed by resident welfare associations and individual consumers alike, who have been managing budgets amid varying economic pressures.
Consumers are advised to check their subsequent bills to see the impact of the revised pricing. IGL has a strong network in the region, and this price reduction reinforces its commitment to providing clean and affordable cooking fuel to the growing urban populace of the National Capital Region.
