The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) has issued notices to nine industries in Koppal district for violating environmental norms. The notices were served under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, and the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, for non-compliance with the provisions of these acts.
Details of the Violations
According to KSPCB officials, the industries were found to be operating without adequate pollution control measures, leading to the discharge of untreated effluents and emission of pollutants beyond permissible limits. The board had earlier conducted inspections and issued warnings, but the industries failed to rectify the issues.
Actions Taken
The KSPCB has directed the industries to immediately cease operations until they comply with the prescribed norms. Failure to do so may result in legal action, including prosecution and closure of the units. The board has also imposed a penalty on the errant industries.
This action is part of a larger drive by the KSPCB to crack down on polluting industries across the state. In recent months, several industries in other districts have also been served notices for similar violations.
Environmental activists have welcomed the move, calling for stricter enforcement of pollution control laws to protect the environment and public health. They have urged the government to ensure that industries adopt cleaner technologies and comply with regulations.
The KSPCB has urged all industries to adhere to environmental norms and avoid penalties. The board will continue to monitor compliance and take necessary action against violators.
