Lucknow Company Rocked by Rs 4.73 Crore Financial Fraud Involving Senior Officials
A major financial scandal has erupted at a private company in Lucknow, with authorities reporting irregularities amounting to a staggering Rs 4.73 crore. The case involves two senior officials who stand accused of systematic embezzlement and financial manipulation over several years, leading to police intervention and a formal investigation.
Police Register FIR Following Internal Audit Discovery
Acting on directives from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), the Vibhuti Khand police have officially registered a First Information Report (FIR) in connection with the alleged fraud. The complaint was filed by Piyush Chaturvedi, an assistant manager at CP Milk and Food Products, which operates from the Vibhuti Khand area of Lucknow. Chaturvedi detailed serious allegations against two colleagues holding key financial positions within the company.
The accused individuals are identified as Varun Asthana, who served as assistant manager for finance and accounts, and Anil Kumar, a senior executive. According to the complaint, both officials misused their authoritative roles to siphon off company funds through a sophisticated scheme that remained undetected for an extended period. Varun Asthana had been associated with the firm since August 2014, while Anil Kumar joined in May 2017, with both entrusted with critical financial responsibilities that they allegedly exploited.
Audit Uncovers Systematic Diversion of Funds
The fraudulent activities came to light during an internal audit conducted on February 4, which flagged alarming discrepancies in vendor payments and overall financial records. A subsequent, more thorough investigation revealed a calculated pattern of embezzlement. Specifically, the probe found that approximately 0.4% of transportation charges from around 390 vendors' accounts was being systematically diverted. This methodical siphoning ultimately resulted in a total embezzlement figure of roughly Rs 4.73 crore.
Further scrutiny exposed an even more distressing aspect of the fraud: payments intended for farmers were being redirected to unauthorized accounts. The company, which regularly processes payments for nearly 4,000 farmers, discovered that in at least 15 documented cases, the accused had replaced the legitimate bank details of farmers with their own. When affected farmers raised complaints about missing payments, they were allegedly misled by the officials, compounding the injustice.
Accused Officials Flee as Police Launch Probe
In a telling development, both accused officials reportedly went on leave shortly after the audit findings emerged, raising suspicions of an attempt to evade accountability. Vibhuti Khand Station House Officer Amar Singh confirmed that police are now meticulously examining financial records and bank transactions to uncover the full extent of the fraud. The investigation aims to trace the flow of misappropriated funds and identify any additional accomplices or vulnerabilities in the company's financial controls.
This case highlights significant lapses in corporate governance and internal oversight at the Lucknow-based firm. The embezzlement of such a substantial sum—Rs 4.73 crore—not only represents a severe financial loss but also undermines trust in the company's operations, particularly among the farming community reliant on timely payments. As the police probe deepens, stakeholders await further revelations that could impact the company's reputation and operational integrity.
