Akzo Nobel India Appoints Parth Jindal as Chairman After JSW Paints Acquisition
Parth Jindal Appointed Chairman of Akzo Nobel India

In a significant leadership transition, Akzo Nobel India Ltd., the renowned paints manufacturer, has announced a major reshuffle in its top management. The company's board of directors has appointed industrialist Parth Jindal as its new Chairman with immediate effect. This move solidifies the leadership change following the landmark acquisition of a controlling stake by JSW Paints last year.

A New Era Under JSW Leadership

The appointment, confirmed through a regulatory filing on Friday, January 9, marks a new chapter for the company. Parth Jindal, who currently serves as the Managing Director of both JSW Paints Ltd. and JSW Cements Ltd., steps into the role subject to final approval from the shareholders. This development comes on the heels of the high-profile deal in which JSW Paints acquired a majority stake in AkzoNobel India for a staggering sum of ₹12,915 crore. Following this transaction, JSW Paints officially became the promoter of the company, setting the stage for this leadership integration.

Strategic Re-designation of Key Executives

Alongside the new Chairman's appointment, the board has also approved a strategic re-designation for the company's current head. Rajiv Rajgopal will be re-designated as the "Joint Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer" effective January 9, 2026. He will move from his present position of Chairman and Managing Director. The board clarified that all other terms and conditions of his appointment, as previously approved by shareholders, will remain unchanged. This planned transition suggests a clear, long-term vision for the company's executive structure.

Strengthening the Board with New Appointment

In another key decision aimed at bolstering corporate governance, the board approved the appointment of Shantanu Maharaj Khosla as an independent additional director. His tenure is set for a period of three years, lasting until January 8, 2029. This appointment is also contingent upon receiving the necessary nod from the company's shareholders. The induction of an independent director is seen as a step towards ensuring balanced oversight and strategic guidance.

The series of announcements signal a comprehensive restructuring of Akzo Nobel India's leadership framework. With Parth Jindal at the helm as Chairman, the company is poised to leverage the synergies between its strong brand legacy and the industrial prowess of the JSW Group. The defined roadmap for Rajiv Rajgopal's role ensures continuity and experience in operational leadership, while the new independent director brings fresh perspective to the boardroom.
