Punjab Wheat Procurement Crosses 100 Lakh MT Mark Amid Declining Arrivals
Punjab Wheat Procurement Tops 100 Lakh MT

Bathinda: Wheat arrivals in Punjab surpassed the 100 lakh metric tonne (MT) mark on Monday, signaling a robust procurement season. According to official data, out of the 103.5 lakh MT of wheat that arrived in mandis by the evening, government agencies procured 100.1 lakh MT, leaving 3.3 lakh MT unsold.

Arrivals and Procurement Trends

With nearly 85% of the state’s 122 lakh MT target already received, arrivals have begun to taper off. On Monday, arrivals stood at 4.4 lakh MT, while procurement touched 4.9 lakh MT, exceeding the day’s inflow. This indicates that previously unsold stock is also being absorbed.

Lifting Operations Lag

Despite strong procurement, lifting of grain from mandis continues to lag. Only about 39% of the procured grain has been moved so far. On Monday, around 5 lakh MT was lifted during the day, but the pace needs to accelerate to avoid storage congestion.
