A major procurement scam involving computer hardware, peripherals, and security material worth Rs 2.79 crore for primary schools in Panchmahal district has come to light. According to officials, payments were made to four agencies without any actual supply of the material.
Investigation Ordered
The district development officer (DDO) of Panchmahal has ordered a probe into the matter. An accounts officer examined records of the district panchayat's primary education department for the past two years and detected irregularities in the transactions.
Preliminary Findings
Preliminary findings revealed that four agencies — three from Rajkot and one from Godhra — were shown as suppliers for computer hardware and security equipment for schools. However, the material was never delivered despite payments being processed.
Legal Action
Following the inquiry, an offence has been registered at Godhra B Division police station. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact extent of the fraud and identify those responsible.
This scam highlights the need for stricter monitoring of procurement processes in government-funded educational projects. Officials have assured that action will be taken against all involved parties.
